New Budapest swimming complex cornerstone to be laid next year
Budapest, February 11 (MTI) – The external architectural design for a new swimming complex to host the 2017 World Junior Swimming Championships and the 2021 World Aquatics Championships has been completed and its cornerstone is planned to be laid next year.
Government commissioner and head of the National Sports Centre, Laszlo Vigh, told a press conference on Tuesday that the six-floor swimming complex is set to become a new spectacle in northern Budapest, next to the current Dagaly spa. It is planned to be completed by the end of 2016, he added.
The complex will occupy an area of 25,000 square metres and will be equipped with a retractable roof. It will have an initial capacity for 5,000 spectators but a temporary mobile grandstand for an additional 13,000 spectators will be added for the 2021 world championships.
